In order to make our environmentally friendly products easier to spot on our website, we have created a separate label for these products: “ECO-friendly”.
Any product that is made from FSC®-certified or Fairtrade certified materials – or from organic, bio-degradable or recycled materials – can be found in this product category. Our “ECO-friendly” brand is usually placed so that it is clearly visible on our products, as this helps our customers promote the principle of sustainability.
Yes, many of our jewellery boxes (and postal boxes) can be recycled. This goes for both our cardboard jewellery boxes and our plastic jewellery boxes.
No, but many of our cardboard boxes are made of FSC®-certified cardboard/paper.
Yes, some of our plastic boxes are made from recycled plastic. Remember to look for Westpack’s own ECO-friendly mark.
We have two types of traditional inserts: Flockfoam Soft and Flockfoam Velour. They are made from some of the same materials but are still different from each other.
Flockfoam Soft is a compound made from polyurethane-ether foam, viscose flock, and binder, while Flockfoam Velour is a compound made from polyurethane-ether foam, polyamide flock, and binder.
Unfortunately, the traditional foam inserts cannot be recycled. But we have three alternatives:
- We offer eco-friendly cardboard inserts made from FSC®-certified raw materials.
- We also have inserts made from 100% renewable raw material. In fact, the inserts consist of processed pine trees from Finland! The clear advantage of the new sustainable foam inserts is the fact that they are not made from plastic, which means that the sustainable foam has a much lower carbon footprint.
- Another option is working with RPET recycled inlays. This does not have the same nice finish as you know from the old foam, but the material is recycled plastic bottles. (Only a possibility if you are ordering large quantities.)
- You can also use cotton wool as a wadding
We hot stamp with foil. The foil is not recyclable or compostable. However, it is worth keeping in mind that only a very low quantity of metal foil is used for each logo print. In fact, we did a calculation to find out. And it turns out that only 0.046 grammes of foil is used for each print!
We would recommend choosing FSC®-certified cardboard and paper, or boxes made from recycled plastic.
No, not necessarily.
If our cost of purchasing the raw materials is higher, the price of the final product will, of course, be higher too. But in many cases, we are able to get good deals on sustainable raw materials (partly because we place large orders). This means that our eco-friendly products are not automatically more expensive. In some cases, the price is the same.
When you order products from our “eco-friendly” range, the ECO logo will often be printed on them. But not always, as it depends on the product type. In our online store, you can see which products have the ECO-friendly mark.
Yes, the glue is not toxic for people to handle. It is simple water-based protein glue.
You should dispose of the plastic jewellery boxes the same way you would dispose of sturdy plastic containers. But remember to follow your local guidelines for recycling.
The cardboard boxes can be disposed of in the same way you would with postal boxes. This means that the cardboard shells can easily be recycled. However, the foam inserts (of the traditional kind) should be thrown out along with ordinary household trash.
Yes, we can. But it is a type of solution we only offer for larger orders. Contact our sales department if you want to hear more.
As the name suggests, soy ink is made from soybeans. The ink is slower to dry than most other types of ink, but it produces brilliant colours and makes it easier to recycle the paper/cardboard. Soy ink is a blend between oil from soybeans, pigment, resins, and waxes. Although it is inedible, it is biodegradable.
