When you shop at Westpack, you will come across products marked with our ECO-label. But what does it actually mean, and why should you choose products with this label?
At Westpack, the ECO-label shows you that the product is either FSC®-certified, made from organic materials, or consists wholly or partly of recycled materials such as recycled cotton or rPET. The label is our way of helping you, as a customer, make sustainable choices quickly and easily.
When does a product receive the ECO-label?
At Westpack, products can earn the ECO-label if they:
-
Are FSC-certified
-
Are made from recycled materials (e.g. rPET or recycled cotton)
What does FSC certification mean?
FSC® stands for Forest Stewardship Council, and FSC certification guarantees that the products are made from wood and paper sourced from responsibly managed forests, where consideration is given to nature, wildlife, and social conditions.
When you choose FSC-certified products from Westpack, you help support responsible and sustainable forestry.

What is rPET?
rPET stands for “recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate” and is recycled plastic, for example from plastic bottles. The material is melted down and processed into new products such as jewellery pouches, gift ribbons, and plastic packaging. At Westpack, we use rPET because it reduces the need for new plastic production and thereby significantly lowers the environmental impact.

Recycled plastic in Westpack’s own production
In our own production, we also use recycled plastic as an integrated part of our environmental initiatives. By choosing recycled plastic over virgin plastic, we reduce CO2 emissions and save valuable resources.
In practice, this means that plastic waste from production is ground down and reintroduced into our injection moulding machines, so no material goes to waste.
Examples of products made from recycled plastic include our bestselling jewellery box Torino Eco, which you can find in our webshop, as well as a wide range of custom-made boxes for our large brand customers.
Recyclable VS recycled – what is the difference?
We are often asked about the difference between recyclable products and products made from recycled materials.
-
Recyclable: When a product is recyclable, it means that the material it consists of can be reused after the product’s lifetime, provided it is sorted correctly as waste. The product therefore has the potential to become part of new products.
-
Recycled: When a product is recycled, it means that it already consists of material from previously used products that have been processed into a new product. The material has thus already been through at least one product life cycle.
In this way, the terms “recyclable” and “recycled” are closely connected – the difference simply lies in where in the product life cycle the material is.

Why is the ECO-label not physically printed on the products?
At Westpack, we have made a strategic decision to discontinue the physical use of the ECO-label on our products. This decision was made to avoid potential misunderstandings and greenwashing, especially in light of new EU directives that require precise documentation and verification of environmental claims.
Instead of using labels that can be interpreted in different ways, we have chosen to focus on full transparency regarding our products. We therefore provide clear information about the material, place and method of production, CO2 impact, and guidance for proper disposal, along with a detailed product declaration that describes the product’s environmental characteristics. This allows you, as a customer, to make an informed assessment of the product’s environmental impact.
