BOSTON ECO: Eco-friendly jewellery boxes - now available with a sustainable insert
The eco-friendly Boston Eco jewellery boxes have been a successful staple in our product range for a while now. Over the years, the popularity of these jewellery boxes only increased, in line with the rising demand for eco-friendliness and sustainability. But the box in its current form can be made even more eco-friendly! Allow us to present an updated version of Boston ECO, with a sustainable insert! This new version replaces the traditional foam insert (made from polyurethane) with a cardboard variant, made of FSC®-certified cardboard.
Sustainability is in high demand
There is no doubt in our mind that the demand for eco-friendly and sustainable packaging is only rising. But packaging can be sustainable on so many different levels. As many of our customers pointed out; the eco-friendly jewellery boxes did not have an eco-friendly insert. You could even say that those very same customers pressured us - in a good way - to develop an alternative.
The eco-friendly alternative
The timeless foam inserts have been the go-to lining for aeons. And with good reason: they’re easy to use, look good, and even add a touch of luxuriousness to the boxes. But foam remains foam - for better for worse, and foam is made from plastic.
The foam used in Westpack’s jewellery boxes is made in Europe. Therefore, the suppliers are subject to EU’s strict rules and regulations for emissions, production processes, and working conditions. But this doesn’t change the fact that the product has an environmental impact; foam inserts are, after all, made from plastic. That is why we were determined to find a sustainable alternative.
A luxurious look
The new eco-friendly inserts are, just like the jewellery boxes, made of FSC®-certified cardboard. Each insert has a velvety topcoat, one you might recognise from its foam counterpart. This topcoat is made from viscose, which is a natural by-product from wood production. Once your jewellery and insert are snugly in place in a jewellery box, the result looks very similar to a traditional foam-filled jewellery box. In other words, we now offer entirely eco-friendly jewellery boxes that look like the jewellery boxes you all know.
Multifunctional, just like foam
And as with the foam inserts, the possibilities are endless. The cardboard inserts each have a great many different notches, suitable for many kinds of jewellery.
‘We introduce Boston ECO in six new sizes. You can buy them with or without eco-friendly inserts’, Henrik Hansen, sales manager at Westpack, explains. ‘The flexibility in our eco-friendly packaging range is higher than ever before.’

Feedback from you leads to new products
Us being able to introduce these new eco-friendly inserts is, in no small part, founded in the feedback we received from our customers.
‘We knew from the beginning that finding an eco-friendly alternative till the well-known foam inserts, with the same degree of versatility, was going to be challenging. But boy, did we come through with an excellent product! Partly because of solid product development, but mainly because of the feedback and ideas from our customers’, Henrik Hansen continues.
‘Functionality is - of course - important to our customers. That is why we have decided to deliver the inserts and the jewellery boxes separately. Experience teaches us that it is considerably easier to fasten the jewellery onto the insert before it is placed into the box. We placed folding lines along the edges of the inserts, making them easier to work with’ he adds.
